At Nicor Gas, we have company-wide initiatives that promote recycling, waste prevention and the use of remanufactured products that reduce the amount of waste going to local landfills.
- We are recycling electronic waste (or "e-waste") such as personal computers, monitors, printers and cellular phones. E-waste has raised concerns because many components of such equipment are considered toxic and are not biodegradable. Typically, recycling electronics involves dismantling the equipment and separating the various components (metal frames, power supplies, circuit boards, plastics, etc.). The components are then recycled; nothing goes to a landfill.
- We also have programs in place to recycle used motor oil, scrap metal and fluorescent light bulbs – even carpeting.
