Nicor Gas to offer energy efficiency tips, information on financial assistance at upcoming energy awareness fairs
November 1, 2012
NAPERVILLE, IL — Nicor Gas will be participating in energy awareness fairs throughout portions of its service territory this winter to provide valuable energy-saving tips, as well as information on financial assistance programs available to eligible customers.
At each of the energy awareness fairs, Nicor Gas representatives will be on hand to help customers review and sign up for payment-assistance programs, as well as discuss rebates offered through the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program. Attendees will also be given important information about simple ways to use energy wisely.
“We are pleased to participate in energy awareness fairs that help our customers prepare for the upcoming winter heating season. The fairs offer a venue for customers to gather information about programs that can help them manage their energy costs this winter,” said Beth Reese, president of Nicor Gas.
Nicor Gas is committed to helping its customers manage energy costs and offers several options for bill payment assistance. Please see the following list for more information.
- Budget Plan – spreads payments over a 12-month period and may be adjusted up or down periodically to correct for future gas prices and expected usage. This helps customers by providing some assurance of knowing how much their gas bill will be each month. During the summer, Budget Plan payments may be higher than actual bills – allowing customers to build up a credit balance to offset winter bills that may be higher due to increased usage.
- Nicor Sharing – provides one-time annual grants to qualified residential customers. The program is administered by the Salvation Army and is funded by direct contributions from customers, employees and Nicor Gas. Customers can make donations via their monthly gas bill.
- Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) – In partnership with the Department of Commerce and Economic Development, Nicor Gas offers the PIPP Program, which allows eligible customers to pay a percentage of their monthly income to maintain their utility service. The program is designed to provide customers with an affordable, level payment plan and a chance to eliminate past due balances.
- Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) –Administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, LIHEAP helps eligible low-income households pay for energy services. Qualifying households receive monetary relief once per year to be used for energy bills. Eligibility is based on several factors including household size, location and income.
More details about these programs will be available at the energy awareness fairs.
