Nicor Gas offers several workforce development programs aimed at fostering skills and providing employment opportunities within the energy industry, including:
Nicor Gas Career Academy: The Nicor Gas Career Academy is a free, six-week job readiness program sponsored by Nicor Gas, Quad County Urban League, IBEW Local 19, NPL, Miller Pipeline and Pipe Strong to prepare candidates for careers in the utility industry.
Novice Workforce Training and Employment (WTE) Program: The Novice WTE program introduces participants to the energy efficiency industry and guides them toward employment avenues with trade allies, utilities and other enterprises. The program is designed to support individuals from traditionally underrepresented and marginalized communities.
Skilled Workforce Training and Employment (WTE) Program: The skilled WTE program is for contractors who are already employed in the energy efficiency field and are looking to increase their earning potential by gaining industry recognized Building Performance Institute credentials through the training program.
Trade Ally Development (TAD) Program: The TAD program is designed to provide growth opportunities for diverse contractors who are committed to serving customers in traditionally underserved areas. Nicor Gas provides qualifying diverse contractors with free training and resources to elevate their business.
These programs collectively aim to build a skilled workforce in the energy industry, provide valuable certifications and support the growth of small businesses and individual contractors in the natural gas sector.
