Innovative Offerings - TotalGreen
Nicor Gas is accelerating toward a clean energy economy with a new offering that is designed to reduce or offset the environmental impacts associated with natural gas use.
TotalGreen is a pilot program that offers flexible options for customers who are interested in offsetting or reducing their carbon dioxide emissions with renewable natural gas (RNG) environmental credits and carbon offsets. RNG can provide a clean energy option that benefits our customers, our communities and our environment.

Reaching net zero – Smart Neighborhoods™
Nicor Gas is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to develop two new communities in Illinois. The new Smart Neighborhoods will be in Aurora and Northern Fox Valley. They are designed to be net zero, which means they do not emit more carbon than they use.
The net zero communities are the first of their kind in the Midwest to be sponsored by a natural gas utility and leverage smart construction technologies to demonstrate both affordability and resiliency.
Gaining ground – Natural gas heat pumps
Gas heat pumps offer fuel efficiency above 100% and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This technology provides more sustainable end uses and cleaner generation sources. Gas heat pumps are cost-effective options, helping customers significantly lower their energy bills.
Nicor Gas is proud to be a founding member of the North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative, a nonprofit organization that is committed to advancing gas heat pump products and making this technology standard practice.
