As a transportation customer, it is important to understand the rates and service options available, so that you can make energy decisions that are the best fit for your needs. Any questions you may have can be directed to GTQA@southernco.com.
Nicor Gas believes in offering its customers choice. Since the introduction of transportation service in the mid-1980s for commercial and industrial customers, more than 60,000 of these customers have decided to purchase natural gas supplies from a source other than Nicor Gas. Under these services, customers make gas purchases themselves or through energy management services or brokers/marketers.
Of these customers, approximately 15,000 are "traditional" transportation customers that can take advantage of additional options including:
Under Rider 13, Supplier Transportation Service, up to 200 accounts that are not commonly owned have the opportunity to be grouped. This service is available to customers electing an unbundled rate. Nominations and SBS are monitored at the group level. However, on a Critical Day or an OFO Day, customers are monitored based on their individual SBS selections. The group manager is assessed a $95 monthly grouping fee and is responsible for all company-supplied gas charges, excess storage and unauthorized use charges.
If a portion of transportation customers choose less than 30 MDCQ days when selecting Storage Banking Service (SBS) capacity, the additional storage will be available to other transportation customers. Each year, the company will determine the amount of unsubscribed storage and then allocate this storage to transportation customers requesting more than 30 days. This storage will be treated as additional SBS capacity.
In 1999, Nicor Gas became the first Illinois gas utility to offer a transportation option, Customer Select, to Rate 1 residential customers. Today, about 225,000 residential customers and 40,000 commercial customers participate in the Customer Select program, whereby you choose a supplier from an approved list of participating marketers*. In turn, the marketer purchases your natural gas supplies for you. The natural gas supplies provided by the marketers are distributed through the Nicor Gas pipeline delivery system.
Depending on the supplier you choose, you will find some offers that lock in your gas price and others that compete with Nicor Gas' monthly gas supply charge. By comparing offers and making the choice that's best for you, you may be able to save money on the cost of your natural gas.
* Marketers (suppliers) participating in the Customer Select program that serve residential and commercial customers using less than 5,000 therms annually are required to be certified by the Illinois Commerce Commission.
Nicor Gas has compiled a list of producers and brokers based on business contacts and its review of trade periodicals.
Nicor Gas has not investigated the history, reliability, financial conditions or any other qualifications of those parties. It also has no independent knowledge of the access of these parties to natural gas. Nicor Gas makes no representations, expressed or implied, as to these parties.
Before you enter into any contract, Nicor Gas recommends that you investigate both the financial history and qualifications of the seller and the terms and conditions of any contracts you may be asked to sign.
Note to Suppliers: If your name appears on this list and you wish to have it removed or if your name does not appear on the list and you wish to have it added, please e-mail the Gas Transportation Customer Service Center at GTQA@southernco.com.
