Does Nicor Gas require a contract to get gas service installed?

For a new commercial, large residential, or installation of gas main, a Service Agreement must be completed and signed. Contact your new construction representative.

Fill out our Gas Availability Request.

What is the cost to get gas installed at my property?

Services that exceed 60 feet from the front property line will be billed an excess footage charge. Services for homes that were demolished and rebuilt will be billed a disconnect fee and a reconnect fee. Nicor Gas may encounter winter construction conditions (for example, frozen ground) during the period from Nov. 15 through March 15 that increase installation costs. If you request service line installation or revisions under such winter construction conditions, you are responsible for the estimated fully distributed cost of the incremental activities required for work under such conditions. Depending on the type of service requested there may be charges incurred. Your Area Representative will help determine whether there will be a cost involved with your gas installation.

Whom do I call for natural gas-related emergencies or if I smell gas?

If you smell a faint natural gas odor near an appliance, first check to make sure all pilot lights are lit. If the odor persists, call us at 888.Nicor4u. If you smell a strong, persistent natural gas odor (or hear natural gas leaking) inside your house, leave the house immediately, opening doors and windows as you leave. Do not use your telephone or any appliances, light a match, or turn light switches on or off because sparks from them could ignite natural gas. Call 911 or Nicor Gas (888.Nicor4u) from your neighbor's house.

Can I get gas service installed at any time of the year?
