In recognition of its commitment to community service and sustainable development, Nicor Gas has been honored with the Habitat for Humanity Hero Award. This prestigious honor celebrates the outstanding contributions and steadfast partnership of Nicor Gas in supporting Habitat for Humanity's mission to build affordable homes for families in need.
The Habitat for Humanity Hero Award is presented annually to organizations that demonstrate exceptional dedication to advancing the nonprofit's vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Nicor Gas is a longstanding partner of Habitat for Humanity through volunteer efforts and financial contributions. The organizations are working together to build 30 net-zero energy homes known as Smart NeighborhoodsTM in the Northern Illinois communities of Aurora and Carpentersville. The homes will feature smart building exteriors, energy efficient heating and cooling and back up energy solutions to help keep energy bills cost-efficient for Habitat families.
Smart Neighborhoods advance energy technologies that work together as a part of an affordable, reliable clean energy economy. They lead to job creation, diverse business partnerships, economic development and green transportation. The Aurora community is the first Smart Neighborhood to be built in Illinois and will launch a three-year research study to examine how natural gas can be part of the solution toward meeting net-zero energy goals.
