Rebates

High-efficiency products use less energy and can save you money. Rebates for energy efficiency upgrades are available to all current residential Nicor Gas customers, and participation is simple.

Steps to receive your rebate

1. Work with a contractor. All products must be installed by a professional contractor unless noted. Air sealing, insulation and duct sealing work must be completed by program approved contractors. Find a contractor near you from our network of Contractor Circle members with our easy-to-use Find a Contractor tool.

2. Install new, qualifying products between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025.

3. Apply within 90 days of installation or by January 31, 2026, whichever comes first, to receive the following rebates.

Furnace and Smart Thermostat Bundle

Additional qualifications

  • Limit 1 Nicor Gas smart thermostat per household/account.
  • Smart thermostat and furnace must be submitted on the same application to receive the rebate.

Furnace requirements:

  • To qualify, furnace must have an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) of 95% or above.
  • The rebate amount is determined by the AFUE rating of the qualifying furnace.

Smart thermostat requirements:

  • Limit: One (1) Nicor Gas smart thermostat rebate per household or account.
  • The thermostat must be installed on a system with residential-sized natural gas space heating equipment.
  • Smart thermostats must be installed in a home with a working Wi-Fi connection and have special features such as geo-fencing capabilities.
  • Smart thermostats replacing programmable thermostats qualify for the smart thermostat rebate.
  • An additional rebate may be available from your electric utility. Contact your electric provider for details.
  • Smart thermostat must be ENERGY STAR® certified or be approved by the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency team if it meets all the above requirements.

  • If you have already received a smart thermostat rebate from Nicor Gas through another offerings (such as an assessment or other Nicor Gas rebate program offering), you do not qualify for an additional rebate.
  • If you received a rebate through ComEd for the thermostat, you may still be eligible for the Nicor Gas rebate, if all other requirements are met.

Furnaces - $150 - $225

≥ 97% AFUE Furnace - $225

≥ 95% AFUE Furnace - $150

Boilers - $350

≥ 95% AFUE Boiler - $350

  • To qualify, boiler must have an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency of 95% or above.
  • Only residential-sized boilers with an input capacity of < 300 MBTUH are eligible.

Combination boiler (space heating and integrated domestic hot water boiler) - $500

Qualifying products

Additional qualifications

  • Only residential-sized boilers with an input capacity of < 300 MBTUH are eligible.
  • Minimum boiler efficiency for eligible new equipment is 95% AFUE.
  • The combination boiler must have a sealed combustion unit and be capable of modulating the firing rate and must be accompanied by a programmed outdoor reset control.
  • Measures that do not qualify for this incentive include boilers with a storage tank and redundant or backup boilers.

Tankless water heater - $150

Qualifying products

Additional qualifications

  • Only residential gas tankless water heaters ≤ 75 MBTUH are eligible.
  • Must meet UEF ≥ .95
  • Must meet ENERGY STAR standards.
  • Tankless water heater must be a whole home unit.

Pool Covers - $0.75 - $1.25 per sq. ft.

Indoor pool cover - $1.25/sq. ft.

Additional qualifications

  • Cover must be installed on a Residential-use pool that is heated with gas-fired equipment. 
  • Cover must be installed on a pool that currently does not have a cover, or has a cover that requires replacement.
  • Rebates are paid per square foot installed and will not exceed the total cost of the cover. 
  • Invoice must include total square footage of cover.
  • Pool cover must have a minimum 5 year warranty.

Outdoor pool cover - $0.75/sq. ft.

Additional qualifications

  • Cover must be installed on a Residential-use pool that is heated with gas-fired equipment. 
  • Cover must be installed on a pool that currently does not have a cover, or has a cover that requires replacement.
  • Rebates are paid per square foot installed and will not exceed the total cost of the cover. 
  • Invoice must include total square footage of cover.
  • Pool cover must have a minimum 5 year warranty.

Rebates For Air Sealing and Insulation

Air sealing, insulation and duct sealing work must be performed by a program approved contractor and all eligibility requirements must be met to qualify for a rebate. Attic Insulation - $400 per home

  • Attic insulation projects are only eligible after air sealing has been completed.
  • Attic Insulation work must be performed by a program approved contractor to be eligible for a rebate.
  • Homes must have a starting R-value of R20 or less to qualify for a rebate.

Wall Insulation - $150 - $350

Exterior Wall Insulation - $150 per home

Additional qualifications

  • Exterior wall insulation projects are only eligible after air sealing has been completed.
  • Existing insulation R-value must be R5 or less. 
  • Wall Insulation work must be performed by an approved contractor to be eligible for a rebate.

Foundation Sidewall Insulation - $200 per home

Additional qualifications

  • Foundation sidewall insulation projects are only eligible after air sealing has been completed.
  • Existing insulation R-value must be R5 or less. 
  • Wall Insulation work must be performed by an approved contractor to be eligible for a rebate.

Duct Sealing - $600 per home

Duct Sealing - $600 per home

Additional qualifications

  • Eligible duct systems are located in unconditioned an/or semi-conditioned spaces (unfinished spaces not directly heated) in the home.
  • Duct Sealing work must be performed by an approved contractor to be eligible for a rebate.

Low Emissivity (Low-e) Storm Window Inserts - $100 per window, up to $1,000

Additional qualifications
  • Contractors must be registered contractors with the state of Illinois.
  • Existing windows can be either single-pane or double-pane with clear glass and frame can be either metal, vinyl or wood.
  • Pre- and post-installation pictures of at least one window per project must be submitted with each application.
  • Insert must be ENERGY STAR certified and meet the ENERGY STAR storm window key product criteria (emissivity ≤0.22 and solar transmission >0.55 in Rockford, Chicago and Springfield climate zones).
  • Each home will be eligible for up to 10 windows, for a maximum rebate amount of $1,000.
  • Installation of low-e windows must be performed by an approved contractor to be eligible for a rebate.
