Natural Gas Infrastructure Planning – Vital to Supporting a Clean Energy Future with Reliable and Affordable Energy

For more than 160 years, Nicor Gas has been serving customers by providing the clean, safe, reliable and affordable natural gas they deserve. That’s made possible thanks to our safe, resilient and modernized delivery infrastructure made up of 34,000 miles of underground distribution lines and eight storage facilities. We safely operate the natural gas system which serves 2.3 million residential, agriculture, commercial, and industrial customers across more than 650 communities in Northern Illinois. This strong foundation is critical to ensuring reliable service to our customers, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, even on the coldest days of the year.

Nicor Gas is committed to a clean energy future – with a goal of sustainable, environmentally friendly energy in Illinois for generations to come.

The company is in the process of developing a 5-year gas investment plan in accordance with the Illinois Commerce Commission’s (ICC) order requiring Illinois natural gas utilities to develop Long-Term Gas Infrastructure Plans (LTGIP). Nicor Gas submitted a workplan for our LTGIP on July 1, 2024.

The first Nicor Gas LTGIP will be filed July 1, 2025, and will contain a description of our investment planning process, identify our five-year investment plan, and explain how we’ve considered customer benefits and impacts to community costs, low-income customers and other marginalized groups. The company will seek stakeholder feedback throughout the development of the LTGIP which will be updated bi-annually.

This page will provide ongoing updates and information to customers and stakeholders about Nicor Gas’ LTGIP. The plan will be guided by the following principles:
