Next Generation Natural Gas

Next Generation Natural gas is gas supply that is sourced, transported and distributed by companies that are committed to reduced methane emissions. Southern Company Gas (Nicor Gas' parent company) was one of eight founding members of One Future, a coalition of 50+ natural gas companies working together to reduce methane emissions across the naturle gas value chain. 

Southern Company is an anchor sponsor of the Low-Carbon Resources Initiative (LCRI), a research and development collaboration between the Electric Power Research Institute and the Gas Technology Institute. Over the next five years, LCRI will focus on developing pathways to advance low-carbon technologies for large scale deployment, including hydrogen, RNG and related low-carbon resources.

Natural gas remains a reliable source, even in the harshest conditions. In January 2019, the Nicor Gas service territory experienced a day with temperatures of 16 degrees below zero. On that day, Nicor Gas delivered 4.88 BCF, the largest volume of gas ever delivered in one day in Nicor Gas history. The safe and reliable supply went to 2.2 million customers with no curtailments.
