A new, innovative offering that brings the benefits of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) to our customers.

RNG is an alternative fuel produced from naturally occurring methane that is captured primarily from landfills, agricultural, wastewater plants, and food waste sites. RNG can provide a renewable energy option that benefits our customers, our communities, and our environment.

Nicor Gas is committed to delivering safe, reliable, affordable, and increasingly renewable energy to the communities we serve. We are always looking for new ways to improve the environment we all share, so we are excited to partner with our valued customers on accelerating toward a clean-energy economy through a new program that will offset participating customers’ environmental impacts associated with their natural gas use called TotalGreen. The TotalGreen program bundles RNG with carbon offsets to reduce or offset 100% of the carbon dioxide emissions associated with a customer’s use of natural gas purchased from Nicor Gas.

What is TotalGreen?

TotalGreen is a voluntary, pilot program designed to be a flexible option for customers interested in offsetting the total net carbon dioxide emissions of 100% of their natural gas usage. As a service offered by Nicor Gas, the environmental benefits (i.e., emissions reductions) are achieved by Nicor Gas procuring the environmental attributes of RNG (i.e., credits associated with the production of RNG) combined with verified carbon offsets and retiring those environmental benefits on behalf of participating customers.

 

What are the benefits of participation in TotalGreen?

By participating in TotalGreen, customers are helping to foster the growth of projects and practices that offset or reduce the carbon dioxide emissions being released into the atmosphere.

 

 

How can I participate in TotalGreen?

TotalGreen will be a subscription-based offering, charged as a separate, additional line item to your monthly Nicor Gas bill, that offers:

• Month-to-month automatic renewals 
• No long-term commitments
• The ability to change subscription options on a month-to-month basis

For either option,TotalGreen Basic or Premium, participating customers can offset 100% of the carbon dioxide emissions associated with their use of natural gas purchased from Nicor Gas.
